Spring Cottage was converted in the early 1970s from a former coach house belonging to Stepping Stones Country House. The original building is believed to date from the early 1800s. The coach house, along with Stepping Stones (which was then called Spring Cottage) was owned by William Wordsworth’s son in the early 19th century. The cottage had just 2 rooms upstairs but was extended in 2001 to add the entrance porch, bathroom and utility room. From 2015 to 2018 the cottage underwent a full transformation into the stunning contemporary property it now is with the substantial extension of the upper floor adding both a new bedroom and garden room overlooking Wansfell Pike. Both front and back of the dining room and kitchen were extended also to provide a superb open space. Downstairs the bedrooms were extended. In addition the cottage now has a detached garage (not open to guests) with above a purpose built games room with table tennis table. The project was completed with landscaping taking full advantage of the beautiful natural rock outcrops and woodland surrounding the property on 3 sides. The extension and renovation retain the original charm of the property and its setting but adds to it a sense of spaciousness and luxury and creates a stunning property in one of the best locations in the Lake District.
